DROPS Prevention
What is DROPS?
DROPS stands for Dropped Objects Prevention Scheme.
In the oil & gas, offshore, construction, renewable energy and other high-risk industries, DROPS is focused on preventing objects from falling from height and causing injury, equipment damage or operational disruption.
For Secure Tools, this is a particularly valuable area of expertise because it connects directly to your tool tethering, secondary retention, retention wires, retention nets and working-at-height products.
In simple terms
If a worker is 30 metres above the ground and drops a spanner, the spanner becomes a dropped object. Even a relatively small tool can become extremely dangerous when falling from height.
DROPS therefore focuses on:
- Identifying objects that could fall
- Assessing the risk they present
- Preventing objects from becoming detached
- Securing tools and equipment
- Installing secondary retention where appropriate
- Inspecting equipment and attachment points
- Training workers in dropped-object prevention
- Creating procedures to reduce dropped-object incidents
